Paul was introduced to the euphonium at school aged 11. Meeting a friend at school, he was introduced to the Royal Leamington Silver Band, where he played in a number of positions, ending up as solo euphonium. With major surgery on his tongue at 23 Paul turned to conducting, American Marching Bands and then to his local brass band Cubbington Silver which had reformed (1995).
After 10 years of conducting and time to heal from his surgery he decided to join Bilton on EEb Bass with is partner Mary (Baritone). Paul plays the alto saxophone and has played tuned percussion on occasions and likes to arrange music for brass.
