Midlands Regional 2nd Section Champions 2012

The band is completely thrilled to have given the winning performance at the Area qualifying contest at Bedworth Civic Hall on Sunday 11th March 2012, and thereby earning our places at the Finals in Cheltenham in September. The band took part playing Cross Patonce by Goff Richards. The band was drawn number 1 – but this simply meant we set the bar for the others to reach…and we were delighted to be placed first by the adjudicators.Well done to everyone – and special thanks to musical director Mark Allen, Bandmaster Stuart Fisher and Professional Conductor David Stowell for their expert direction and motivation in helping us to achieve our first area win in living memory!

This is what the judges had to say:

Movement 1

Very spirited open all detail clear with fine dynamics-super cadenza well done-all flows nicely-all parts confidently done. This is very pleasing, very vibrant. Good quality sounds, well done indeed.

Movement 2

Confident and well balanced. Fine chord between A and B. Well shaped and a balanced ensemble at C. D is fine. Excellent Euph from E. A very good movement.

Movement 3

Very bright start, clarity is a feature. C very good. Fine basses at E. Contrast and details very good, all flowing on nicely.

A very fine account from the outset. I enjoyed your excellent playing. Thank you.

Movement 1

Buoyant opening and safely through to an excellent Euph cadenza. B agile and clear detail is heard with fine dynamic contrasts noted. I slight trom disturbance, but the music is full of energy. L super percussion. M is tight here. O a touch more width! Early bass entry before close otherwise fine.

Movement 2

Slight clip in first bar then clear solo lines. A clear melody and warm band support. B loveky shape here. C warm and expressive. E a touch quitere please but so warm and musical and a super close.

Movement 3

Animated opening but all detail clear. D a touch clearer please then all fine. I enjoy the brightness and clarity. Sparkles into J. You maintain musical interest through to a vibrant close.

A well presented and musically delivered performance of great music. Only small moments of tiny concern, and so much to enjoy. Thank you.
